Garage Organization Tips from a Tool-Loving Founder: How I Keep My Tools and Life in Order

Why Organization Runs in My DNA (and in Olsa Tools)

Growing up, I was that weird kid who actually liked keeping my room clean. Seriously. My toys had assigned parking spots. My desk was more organized than most office supply stores. And heaven forbid I got my hands dirty—I’d yell for my mom like it was a five-alarm emergency. (Don’t worry, I’ve toughened up since then. I can handle greasy hands now… as long as there’s wipes or soap nearby.)

Organization has always been my thing. My keys? Always on the key hanger by the door. My phone? On the desk charger, every night, no exceptions. Laptop and bag? Same spot, every time. Even my nightly “dad security sweep” is a ritual: I check every door in the same order—house, truck (2020 F350 6.7L), wife’s car. Call it OCD, call it efficiency—either way, I don’t waste time searching for stuff. And let’s be honest, wandering around looking for your keys or phone in the middle of a Monday morning is the real nightmare.

Naturally, that habit followed me into the garage. Every wrench, socket, and ratchet has a home, and they go back there every single time. Whether I’m wrenching on my old Honda TRX250R quad, tweaking the kids’ bikes, or tinkering with our travel trailer, I know exactly where each tool is. Some folks might say their 10mm sockets have “disappeared into the abyss”—luckily, I keep mine so organized even the sneakiest socket can’t hide. But if you’re a socket collector, don’t worry—we sell a 100-piece 10mm socket set so you’ll never run out!

That same mindset is baked into Olsa Tools. From day one, our business has been about organization and efficiency—because that’s how you win both in the shop and in business. Our team has systems for just about everything. SOPs, images, documents—they’re all where they belong in our Drive. And we don’t just set it and forget it; we review those systems yearly to keep them sharp. Efficiency isn’t just a buzzword for us—it’s one of our core values.

And for the record, yes, I have a special drawer for “miscellaneous parts and things I’ll never use but can’t throw away.” Every garage hero needs one.

So here’s my challenge to you: how do you stay organized? Got a shop hack, time-saving system, or ‘why didn’t I think of that’ trick? Share it with us on Facebookor Instagram I'd love to steal… I mean, learn from… your ideas.

Because whether it’s tools, trucks, or teams, one truth holds: put stuff back where it belongs, and life gets a whole lot easier.
